Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 May 2026.
SmartCaps is built by Vitalis Apps (Daniel Simple). This policy explains exactly what we do, and do not, collect when you use the SmartCaps iOS app.
Data you upload
- Audio, extracted from the video you pick, is uploaded to our transcription server only to produce timed words. The audio is processed in memory, not stored, and is discarded once transcription returns. Our transcription provider is Deepgram (deepgram.com), which processes the audio under their privacy policy and does not retain audio data for model training when called through our API.
- The video file itself never leaves your device. The caption render runs on-device using Apple AVFoundation.
Data we collect
- Anonymous diagnostics: crash logs, app version, iOS version, and basic usage events such as "import_started", "transcribe_done", "export_done" (with the clip duration and the chosen caption style). These let us fix bugs and tune the product. We do not collect device identifiers, location, contacts, photos, or any other personal data.
- No account is required. SmartCaps does not ask you to sign up.
Subscription data
If you purchase SmartCaps Pro, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple via the App Store. We receive Apple's purchase receipt to verify your subscription on this device. We do not see your Apple ID, your name, or your payment details.
Photos
SmartCaps asks for add-only Photos access when you tap "Save to Photos" on a finished video. We use this once, to add the rendered MP4 you just saved. We never read your Photos library.
Children
SmartCaps is not directed at children under 13.
Your rights
You can delete all on-device SmartCaps data at any time from Settings → Account → Delete my data. To request deletion of any server-side diagnostics tied to your device, email [email protected] with the date and approximate time of use.
